How To Stay On Track (Even when you slip and fall!)
I hear sayings like this constantly, “I just want to be skinny” “Lose 20lbs+” “Gain my life back” “Look in the mirror and be confident within myself” "Complete my first competition or endurance race” “Cut back on medical expenses” “Have energy while I am at work.”
But some words I don’t hear: pain, sacrifice, determination, obedience, and discipline. Those are some powerful words, but these are the words you will think to yourself when you feel like giving up from your goals and dreams. I have helped numerous people gain happiness, health and accomplish their fitness goals. I also have given 100% of my effort to others and see them give it there all for few weeks, has a slip over the weekend and give up all together.
Why and how could this happen?
Some things to consider:
You must have an execution plan when times get tough.
You must face reality and know you will fall, but you will get back up and keep going.
You must expect not to work. You HAVE to put in the EFFORT to achieve your goals.
Whether I am your trainer or someone else is, you must discuss an execution plan when times get tough. State your weaknesses (maybe a certain area in the house, time, food, drink, mode, etc.) Whatever it is, state it! State it and list three ways you can avoid falling into the trap your mind plays on you. For example, if I do not make an effort to get up and workout before my day gets going there is a good 80% chance I will not workout that day. Things get hectic and life gets in the way! I am constantly on the go and hate spending time away from work, family, or friends.
So what do I do? I plan ahead.
Like I stated, I list out THREE ways to avoid the situation. I also would state what emotions and feelings I would have if I successfully complete the task or epically failed.
Examples are:
THREE WAYS I AVOID:
1. Plan out my day the night before:
Whatever I have going on the next day, I write them out in exact order I want to try and complete them in.
2. Pack up the night before:
I will pack my meals and gym bag the night before.
3. My Mantra: I tell myself: “it’s only an hour Haley. You can sleep another hour or get your ass out of bed and accomplish something! No one got anywhere sleeping an extra hour did they?” ß trust me when I say I say this because when my alarm chirps in the morning, eyes puffy and can barely see where I am going. I just do it anyways.
EMOTIONS WHEN I EPICALLY FAILED TO COMPLETE:
Regret. Disappointment. Lazy. Weak. Tired.
EMOTIONS WHEN I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE:
Confidence. Happiness. Success. Energy. Gratitude. Perseverance. Intuition. Inner Strength. Strong. Endorphins (I love starting my day out with a little physical activity).
